Giving blood

When you’re 17 or older you can help to save someone’s life or improve the quality of their life by giving blood around three times a year at centres all over the country. Hospitals and doctors need donated blood to treat a lot of different illnesses, and it’s also used in most surgical operations. Giving blood is easy and doesn’t hurt – most people don't feel a thing.

Apart from being over 17, to be a blood donor you need to be generally fit and well, and weigh over 50kg (7st 12lbs).
